Warlords Of Draenor: What We Know From The Cinematic

by - 10 years ago

It’s here and it’s finally official: Warlords of Draenor will be the next expansion. In the wake of Mists of Pandaria, the Alliance stands strong as the lone “superpower”, according to Chris Metzen, and in Warlords of Draenor the ghosts of villains past such as Blackhand, Kil’rogg, Ner’zhul, Gul’dan and Grom Hellscream return. We aren’t sure on what the exact storyline will be but the cinematic (which we’ll have shortly) revelead some of the key points of what we’ll see in WoD.

  • New world: Draenor
  • Build and upgrade your garrison
  • New character models
  • Level cap 100
  • New world PvP zone
  • Boost to 90 and play immediately
  • No new class, no new race
  • A lot of Draenei in the cinematic, and it opened with a quote from Prophet Velen. Draenei lore!
  • Post cinematic on the virtual ticket we learned from Metzen that Garrosh is going to be put on trial but escape and travel back in time to form a different Horde. However, Garrosh is not going to be the final boss of the expansion. More details will come in the upcoming WoW panel!
  • The WoD site is now up: check it out

    My positives:

+ Shadowmoon Valley. A zone always set during the night? And with a high-res sky dome texture full of stars? Sign me up!
+ Updated character models. The ones I’ve seen so far are really nice and expressive.
+ Garrisons. I love these, and actually suggested something similar a few months back. Followers for the win!
+ World PvP Zone. This is a good initiative. I’d prefer it if it was in the actual open world, but a zone will do for now.
+ All the inventory upgrades. This was a long time coming, but I’m really pleased about it.

    My negatives:

    – The setting of Draenor. While I love the idea of seeing Draenor come to life, I don’t like how it’s done – time travel makes it feel unreal and fake.
    – More orcs, and Garrosh, really? I’ve already had my healthy dose of them in SoO, and was really looking forward to a different theme.
    – The general lack of content. 2 initial raids, 7 new dungeons (and UBRS), no new class or race. This seems lacklustre to me.
    – No clear main antagonist… again? They said someone was behind Garrosh, but it feels like the orcs once again assume the role of antagonists.
    – The zones are bleh. While Shadowmoon Valley seems interesting, the rest just seem dull, grey, brown, and unimaginative. Orc heaven, I suppose.
