Bashiok announced that the Justice heirloom vendors will go "on a nice vacation" once World of Warcraft 6.0.2 hits. Additionally, he explained that this temporary change is due to an upcoming heirloom system overhaul in a future patch....

The CM team announced today that the legendary cloak quest-chain in Mists of Pandaria will be removed from the game when Warlords of Draenor is released. Anyone who has the cloak by that point will get to keep it, but anyone who hasn’t got it by the drop-dead date of November 13th is out of luck. In support of that effort, the Gaze of the Black Prince buff will stay active until Patch 6.0.2, the Warlords systems patch, which is due to be released around a month prior to the expansion’s release date in November. After 6.0.2, the Gaze buff will be gone, but the Test of Valor step of the questchain (which requires that you earn 3000 VP before advancing) will be removed, since Valor and Justice Points are being removed from the game. To be 100% clear: if you complete the questchain before November 13th, you get to keep the cloak. ...

Anyone familiar with Blizzard games is certainly accustomed to and with achievements. These toasts that pop up from time to time celebrate a various number of things you can do within the game from dropping chandeliers on 666 enemies in Diablo to fishing up Old Crafty in Ogrimmar for World of Warcraft. Some players completely ignore them; others hunt them passionately and viciously, sometimes even going as far as to create entire communities around like-minded individuals for a combine-and-conquer initiative. With Diablo recently adding Seasons and Conquests within Seasons, which are akin to “uber” achievements, it got me wondering whether Hearthstone could use an Achievement system. It’s something we’ve discussed on prior podcasts and in other venues, but I want you, the readers, to chime in directly. What would achievements look like in Hearthstone to you? Why would you want them in the game? Do you want more prestige? A profile/armory to ...

John Yang talks about pet survivability

by Hotstreak on

Blizzard Game Designer John Yang took to the forums this week to talk about the survivability of pets. In his post, he mentioned that their goal is to make pets roughly as survivable as players. This is good news for all pet build lovers since this hopefully means that pets will be more viable in higher torments and possibly greater rifts too. So if you’re looking to run a pet doctor for Season 2, then things could be looking pretty good for you. Hey everyone. We’re in the process of doing a review of Rift Guardian abilities and extremely damaging monster abilities in regards to the amount pets take. Our philosophy on pet survivability can be summed up as follows:Pets should be roughly as survivable as the player. There’s a lot to this statement so let me clarify a bit: Pets should scale with your survivability stats. They currently scale with ...

New Article Feature: The Waypoint

by Neinball on

CM Tyvalir introduced a new featured article series for the official Diablo site, The Waypoint. This new series seems to mirror another recent edition to the mainsite, with a central focus on the community. It’s nice seeing the CM team starting to turn more of a focus on, well, the community. We now have three regular articles that highlight different aspects of the community, one (Play Your Way Thursday) even gives fans the chance to play alongside the developers themselves. The Waypoint isn’t particularly focused on one aspect or another, it’s a general collection of outstanding pieces from the community. It’ll cover everything from farming guides, theorycrafting or even just a collection BIS items they’ve found in the forums. Check out this week’s collection below. While there’s no question that slaying hordes of demons and looting heaps of shiny trinkets from their corpses is a ton of fun, sharing and ...

Blizzard has announced that the opening bouts for the World of Warcraft Arena Championship, the Starcraft II World Champion Series Global Finals, and the Hearthstone World Championship will all take place the weekend before BlizzCon 2014, from October 31st to November 2nd. With all the championship games scheduled to happen at BlizzCon itself, it’s certain to be a huge esports event, aside from all the regular excitement we all get from the convention. Check out Blizzard’s full details on the events below. One weekend can’t contain all of this year’s BlizzCon eSports action. With the StarCraft II World Championship Series Global Finals, Hearthstone World Championship, and World of Warcraft Arena World Championship all culminating this year at BlizzCon 2014, we needed an extra weekend to squeeze in all of the competitions—and to make sure everyone has a chance to take in as many of the tournaments and events during BlizzCon ...

Major updates to the Technical Alpha for Heroes of the Storm were released in today’s patch, including the introduction of Chen Stormstout as the newest hero and a significant overhaul of the Haunted Mines map. Chen will play very similarly to how those of you who used the Pandaren Brewmaster hero in Warcraft III remember him. The Haunted Mines underground area was decreased in size and number of skulls required, and there are also less mercenary camps. You can see the new version on the updated Battleground page online. The 64-bit client is still being deployed, but streaming downloader functionality, UI updates, and balance tweaks to many heroes were included in the significant list of changes. Read on for a full list: GENERAL 64-Bit Client Now Available A 64-bit version of the Technical Alpha Client is now available on 64-bit systems. The 64-bit version of the Heroes client allows the ...

Blizzard unveiled today that the next update to the Technical Alpha client will include an option for players running the Windows version of the Battle.net App to launch the new Heroes 64-bit client. Under the Settings -> Game Settings menu, simply uncheck the ‘Launch 32-bit client (instead of 64-bit)’ option, just as you would for World of Warcraft. The complete announcement was as follows: We’ll be releasing a 64-bit version of the Technical Alpha client with our next patch, which players on 64-bit Windows systems will be able to start using just as soon as maintenance concludes on patch day. If you’ve got more than 4GB of RAM installed in your machine, the 64-bit client will allow the game to utilize this extra memory, reducing the risk that you might run into an Out-of-Memory error while playing Heroes of the Storm. We’ll make further improvements to the 64-bit client with ...
