Take a look below, changes since last update to the Alpha patch notes are denoted in red. Introduction World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor™ Patch 6.0.1 Alpha Updated: 04-17-2014 Welcome to an early look at patch notes for the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion: Warlords of Draenor. The new expansion introduces a wealth of new content and changes. There’s also a new patch note format, which we hope will help better convey the reasoning for many of the changes being made and what they mean for you, while providing more background into issues we’re trying to solve. Please be aware that the patch notes are preliminary and not final. Details may change before ...

Illidan is a notorious PVP server known for it’s imbalanced factions. The horde completely dominate, so much so that  it’s a staggering 1:32.6 ratio of alliance to horde. Just four days ago, Reddit user void_moon created a topic that to some seemed insane. He wanted to create a guild on one of  the most poorly balanced servers in the wow community and fight back the horde. In his mission void moon described his dreams of fostering a real sense of community that in some of the larger servers is non existent. By being small, players might actually begin to feel big, and interacting within the world might be more rewarding for players because they can see familiar faces and enemies. These new bloodthirsty mongrels would be the Masochists. This last Thursday saw the level 0 guild with a healthy 50 players, and on Friday the guild’s population more-than quadrupled to a staggering 243. On ...

Warlords of Draenor: Priest Changes

by matticus on

I touched upon the changes to the Priest specs during episode 15 of The Edge. Today, I want to expand upon that and examine the rest of the changes that were made in further detail. I still maintain that Priests are the flagship healer class in any game. In Mists, Discipline outshone Holy completely and Shadow was considered average to above average DPS on major fights. Blizzard decided to dial back the potency of Discipline, ease up on the restrictions of Holy, and offer Shadow a little more flexibility in their gearing. General Cooldowns like Hymn of Hope and Void Shift have been removed. In a recent interview with Gamebreaker, Celestalon explained the logic behind removing Innervate. Simply put, the strategy behind Innervate was to wait until mana falls below a certain percentage, then cast Innervate and use it whenever it was available. Same logic with Hymn of Hope. That doesn’t mean ...

The first webisode of Azeroth Choppers is now online for your viewing pleasure. As we learned when it was revealed last week, the show will focus on two teams within Paul Jr.’s shop, aligned with two sets of Blizzard employees, with the competition being about who can make the more amazing chopper based on the Horde and Alliance factions. The series will culminate in a world-wide vote, where the winning faction will get their chopper implemented in-game. Watch the first episode below, and show your faction pride across social media using the #TeamHorde or #TeamAlliance tags....

Raiding is one of the driving factors behind the success of WoW as it gives PVE (player versus environment) players something to strive for, their ultimate goal. However, a big problem that comes with raiding is how tied it is to the main story that drives change in the game. To understand many of the events in that happen in Azeroth you have to follow what happens in raids as each tier progresses the story in some manner. There is also a great deal of time and resources spent in the development of raid content encounters, and Blizzard has been trying to make them and the story as accessible as possible. At the end of Cataclysm, the accessibility of raiding content was made possible with the introduction of LFR (Looking for Raid), a 25-man version with a toned-down raid difficulty, where people could queue up and get some inferior versions ...

Datamining efforts by Wowhead have revealed many of the raw profession materials coming in the expansion, in addition to some more specific changes to existing professions beyond what we covered from the patch notes last week. Read on to see what’s in store. First of all, however… DATAMINING DISCLAIMER: Please note that any and all information acquired through datamining is subject to change. Just because something is in the files doesn’t mean it’ll ever be implemented in the game. And anything implemented currently is not permanent until the game itself is released. Herbalism Herbs in Draenor seem to be much more zone-delimited than in past expansions, with each herb pointing to a particular zone. Starflower grows in Shadowmoon Valley. Frostweed and Fireweed grow in different locations within Frostfire Ridge. Gorgrond Flytrap, Talador Orchid, and Nagrand Arrowbloom name where they’re from. Chameleon Lotus is different in that it may not have a unique model ...

It’s always the same at the end of an expansion: you get super bored of pretty much everything there is to do in Azeroth. You are faced with farming the last raid tier for months on end, you have a farmyard full of max-level battle pets, the Warlords of Draenor beta is still nowhere in sight, and you can only sit around the Shrine watching the trade trolls for so long before you go crazy.  But what else can you do? Of course, there is the usual “farm old raid bosses for transmog, mounts and toys,” but really, most of us are doing that already, and even that doesn’t take up too much time at this gear level. So what are the other things you can do to keep yourself from getting bored that are a bit out of the ordinary and definitely catered towards the more hardcore players? Neutral ...
