Is Blizzard Planning a Pre-BlizzCon Party at Disney?

by - 9 years ago

BlizzCon 2015 has not been announced yet, but there have been a lot of signs that have pointed at the fact that there will be a BlizzCon 2015 in the fall. All of the eSports world championships for Blizzard games have been vague in their verbiage that they will be held in the fall, not to mention it’s very likely we’ll see a new WoW expansion announcement, Diablo 3 expansion announcement, another Hearthstone expansion announcement and who knows what else. There is plenty to talk about.

However, Reddit user /u/JamesChin made a post on /r/HeroesOfTheStorm that he received a survey asking if participants would be interested in a pre-BlizzCon party at Disney’s California Adventure Park.

The survey states:

“Blizzard is considering hosting a private BlizzCon Pre-Party to be held at Disneyland’s California Adventure. Guests would be treated to Blizzard themed attractions including a customized World of Color show and a Blizzard concert experience. Attendees would have access to the entire California Adventure Park (including all rides/attractions) and last approx 5.5 hours. A dinner voucher will be included to be redeemed at any quick service restaurant.”

I have personally always wondered why Blizzard and Disney never really paired up on taking advantage of all the Blizzard fans coming to Anaheim. Granted, Disneyland already gets a good chunk of people who go to DisCon (Sunday after BlizzCon it’s a common trip for attendees). Also, it’s not uncommon for Blizzard and Disney to team up, especially with the World of Color.

For Blizzard’s Holiday Party in 2011 employees were given a private showing of World of Color which included Blizzard themed cinematics. You can see the results of it below.

So after seeing that, if the survey is real or not – would you want to go see a Blizzard themed party at Disney’s California Adventure which included a private showing of a Blizzard cinematic themed World of Color? I sure in the heck would!

Did you receive this same survey? If you did, please let us know in the comments below or email info@blizzpro.com

Sounds awesome. I wonder if people would want this over a third official day of BlizzCon though. It seems like they’d have to expand with the new games and according championships, no?

      Why not both? 😀

I think this whole convention could stand a bit of change.
1 – I’d separate the convention from the championships. There are people who go for the championships who have no interest in the convention, and people who go for the convention who couldn’t care less about eSports. Split the tickets, give incentive pricing for those who want both, and potentially cut down on overcrowding of one or the other. This would also allow them to change the venue for championships if it gets too big for the convention center and they could just do shuttles between the Con and the championships for those who want both.

2 – Expand the championships to three days and start on Thursday so if people choose they can come in early for the first few rounds, or just come in when things get to the later rounds.

3 – Do pre-events (like the one in the article) also on the Thursday but keep them unofficial and in large venues so lots of people can come, not just BlizzCon ticket-holders. Give people a taste so they want to come back for more next time.

They actually started doing that some last year. You could have bought the StarCraft 2 esport tickets and gotten access to the tournament for $25 but not BlizzCon. Blizzon tickets had access to it all.

They also started the tournament earlier and got a bunch of rounds out of the way before the big event.

I thought I remembered the bit about the rounds going first, but didn’t know about the esport ticket portion.
